1. What was your original calling to music? How did you start?
I was inspired by music at an early age. I began playing piano at the age of 5, writing music at 7, and singing and performing at 13. Music has been a constant in my life.
2. Who or what is your musical inspiration? Which artist(s) do you look up to? Did any of them inspire you to experiment with your music? Is there something new you’d like to try?
So many artists have inspired me through the years. As a pianist, Billy Joel, Elton John, and Bruce Hornsby are a few. The Beatles, The Eagles, and many other bands have inspired my style. As a country artist, Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, George Strait, Rascal Flats, and many others have inspired me. Lately, I have been inspired by Chris Thomas the CEO, a reggae artist with whom I am collaborating.
3. Why did you become involved with Music Beats Cancer? Has cancer directly or indirectly affected you?
I jumped at the chance to raise money for this important cause! Cancer has indeed touched my family’s lives. We have known so many friends and family members who have fought bravely. Some have won and others have lost this courageous battle! Just this past year my sister’s family has lost her father-in-law. This father, grandfather, husband and friend will be remembered and missed, and has left a hole in the lives of so many. Also, my wife and I are caregivers for my mother-in-law who is, as we speak, fighting her battle with cancer. For the past several months, appointment by appointment, treatment after treatment, I have watched her bravely stand up and fight for her life! She is an inspiration and, so far, is winning this fight!
4. What is happening next in your music career?
There are so many opportunities on the horizon. This year I was honored to be in consideration from a Grammy nomination. My music has been played in over 160 countries this year and I’m proud to say that many of the songs I have written are being considered for recording by several big-name artists. I also continue to play 150+ shows annually as well as write and record music regularly.
