Music Beats Cancer: Ariana Grande

Music Beats Cancer

For those who are unaware, Ariana Grande is a young musical prodigy hailing from the United States. She began her career in 2008 when she was barely 15 years old. She starred in a Broadway musical, but she became more known for her role on the Nickelodeon TV show Victories soon after and a spin-off that followed it.

However, Ariana quickly moved on from her acting and singing jobs on television and tried launching a full singing career. It didn’t take too long for a major record label to see her YouTube music videos, and they signed her in 2011. In 2013, her first album called Yours Truly came out. It was a mix of pop and R&B, with influences from the 50s era doo-wop genre

The first album was a success, and so were all the subsequent albums and singles that followed. One of the albums won a Grammy, while many of her songs from that and other albums broke many records on several charts across the globe. She is also the first female artist to have three top spots on the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously, and she is the first female artist to reach number one in the UK charts. More noticeably, she is the first artist ever to have lead singles from five different albums to reach the top ten of the US charts. Also, let’s not forget that she already holds a total of seven Guinness World Records, which is not a small thing for someone so young.

Outside of her majorly successful music career, Ariana is an outspoken feminist and LGBT rights supporter. She is also a person who truly cares about the world around her, which can be seen through her charitable work and the causes she supports. As a big supporter of foundations, like Cancer Research Institute, Melanoma Research Alliance, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and many more, Ariana is never shy to show her support and appreciation for what truly matters in this world.

Even before becoming famous, and while still only 10 years of age, Ariana co-founded a charitable singing group called Kids Who Care. In 2007 alone, that group earned half a million dollars for charity. The kind heart only children have remained with her in adulthood, and her fans now know her as someone who will help them in their times of need.

In 2014, she performed on the famous Stand Up to Cancer program by singing her song called My Everything. The song was dedicated to her grandfather, who died of cancer in that same year. After the devastating terrorist attack in 2017 at her Manchester Arena concert, Ariana organized the One Love Manchester concert. After she released the live album of the concert, she earned more than $23 million, all of which she donated to the families affected and many other causes.

For all that she has done, it can only be said that she is a special person, the likes of which are rarely seen today. However, thanks to agents of positive change like Ariana Grande, we can always hope for a shining beacon to show through the darkness.
