Music Beats Cancer: Meet Alex Caruso

Music Beats Cancer

We are reaching out to artist Alex Caruso, one of the top fundraisers for Music Beats Cancer, to learn more about what inspires her music. During our interview, we found out more about her involvement with Music Beats Cancer, as well as her future music aspirations. Read on to get to know Alex in our first Music Beats Cancer Artist Interview!

Q: What was your original calling to music?

A: It all started when I was little. I would always sing in the car, then I started getting into choir. In high school, people started telling me I was good, so I thought I should get into music. It’s really what I love.

Q: Who or what is your musical inspiration? Which artists do you look up to?

A: Katy Perry. She’s pop for one, which is the genre I sing. Also just the way she acts towards her fans –  in her concerts, in her interviews, etc. You can tell she cares about her fans, and she is an amazing performer. Meghan Trainor is another artist who continues to inspire me.

Q: Why did you become involved with Music Beats Cancer? Has cancer directly or indirectly affected your life?

A: I have close family friends have been affected by cancer – and my grandma had breast cancer too. That’s one of the big reasons why I wanted to be a part of Music Beats Cancer. I’ve been partners with them for six months, since June of 2015 and it has been a very rewarding partnership. I plan on working with Music Beats Cancer in the future and I hope we can make a difference together.

Q: What is happening next in your music career?

A: Right now we are working on my first album. It will come out in the fall (2016). We’ve been writing material for close to a year, but we’re very selective and have a bunch of songs nearly ready, with about another 6 months or more ahead of us. Today we are releasing my second original song, Hyperventil8. We went to Atlanta to record it at an amazing studio called Icon Studios. I got to work with Dionne Osborne, who is Drake’s vocal coach. The song was produced by Vinay, who has collaborated with Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Kevin Gates & others. And we are also working on a music video for Hyperventil8 which we are hoping to come out with in March.

Q: Anything else you would like Music Beats Cancer readers to know about you?

A: I love the work I am doing with Music Beats Cancer by my side. Music itself is a healer – but the fact that we can use music to do more & reach farther to spread awareness is amazing. There is a desperate need for more funding to find new cancer treatments & technologies and my partnership with Music Beats Cancer will help bring a greater awareness to this fact. A cure for cancer in my lifetime is one of my dreams.
